Consilio to Lead Panels at Legaltech New York 2017
Featured panels will focus on the challenges of cross-border eDiscovery
Washington D.C. – January 24, 2017 – Consilio, a global leader in eDiscovery, document review and legal consulting services, today announced that several executives will lead panel discussions on cross-border eDiscovery at the Legaltech® New York 2017 conference.
Speakers include Managing Directors Drew Macaulay and Michael Becker and Vice President Ben Rusch, who all have extensive experience advising clients on cross-border matters. All three will moderate panels on Wednesday, February 1 for the track The Challenges of Cross-Border eDiscovery, focusing on how organizations can handle the most pressing pain points of cross-border data transfers in light of today’s constantly changing regulatory environment and data privacy rules.
10:30am – 11:30am ET: The Data Privacy Landscape: Emerging Laws Affecting Cross-Border Discovery
In this session, a panel of leading eDiscovery experts will offer best practices for navigating the current state of cross-border data transfers unscathed. The panel will evaluate the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation, the EU-US EU-US Data Privacy Framework, blocking statutes and other data localization developments from around the globe, including in Russia, South America and the Asia-Pacific. Panelists will also review differing definitions of privacy in light of recent case law and discuss how they affect organizations’ legal obligations. Finally, the panel will suggest strategies for implementing safeguards and reducing the risks posed by these developing laws. Consilio Managing Director Drew Macaulay will serve as the discussion leader.
1:30pm – 2:30pm ET: Finding a New Safe Harbor: Using Technology and 1LR to Comply With Cross-Border Data Privacy Rules
The nullification of the US-EU Safe Harbor Agreement was a shot heard around the legal world. In the vacuum created by the collapse of this framework, and with new data privacy laws continuously emerging, organizations have been struggling to determine how best to proceed with cross-border data transfers for litigation, compliance and regulatory investigations. In this panel, international eDiscovery experts will discuss how various approaches to compliance, including tools such as deduplication, predictive coding, automatic redaction, and anonymization, can reduce the risks inherent in data. Consilio Managing Director Michael Becker will serve as discussion leader.
3:00pm – 4:00pm ET: Global Investigations and Multilingual Data – How to Manage the Risks Presented by Multilingual Datasets
While conducting business in multiple languages is necessary and inevitable, it also creates grave business risks as some of the most egregious and concerning compliance issues become much harder to detect. Sound risk management requires an effective approach to reviewing multilingual datasets. In this thought-provoking session, attendees will get a refreshing flavor for how delightfully complex multilingual reviews can be. The speakers will illustrate the challenges of searching multilingual data and will explain workflow choices for the review of multilingual documents. Consilio Vice President Ben Rusch will serve as discussion leader.
