How did you get into this industry?
Similar to a lot of people I have spoken to over the years, I happened to fall into this industry. At the beginning of my career, I joined Consilio as a receptionist in a temp position for 3 months, after my probation period I was brought in full-time and proceeded from there. This role allowed me to learn from the ground up, to be inquisitive and provided me with the stepping stone to shape my vision of where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. I have always had a strong work ethic, which paired with having great colleagues and managers accelerated me into taking opportunities to further my career.
What were some pivotal moments in your career that helped to get you to where you are today?
A pivotal moment for me was when I was internally recognised for a new role, this opened the door to so many opportunities with the company. Recognition within this industry is a big achievement, I am very proud of myself for that.
Have you ever noticed a time in your career where your gender proved to differentiate you?
My professional career began at Consilio nearly five years ago and I haven’t ever noticed a time in my career where my gender proved to differentiate me from any of my colleagues, or teams.
What is your advice for someone working in a predominately male workplace?
I would say to be yourself, your traits and personality are what make you unique and will shine through in any workplace.
What do you think companies could do to motivate more women to pursue careers in technology?
I think companies should explore taking the time to visit schools and present the variety of roles that can be pursued in technology. When I was younger, my idea of working in tech came from television or film. After getting a role in the industry, my perception changed, and I never looked back. Introducing young women to various tech roles early on could increase their pursuit of tech careers.
