Workshop will help stakeholders understand the risks and develop strategies to avoid costly mistakes

LONDON –Thursday 14th June 2012 — Consilio, a Symphony Technology Group (STG) company and leading eDiscovery services firm, has announced it will host a pre-conference workshop, entitled: ‘Anti-Corruption Internal Investigations: An Insider’s Guide on How to Set Up, Manage and Conduct Thorough Internal Investigations into Corruption and Bribery Allegations’ at the C5 Anti-Corruption event which is scheduled to take place during 25th-28th June, 2012 at The Bloomsbury Hotel, London.

The Consilio workshop will take place between 1:30pm – 5:00pm GMT on Monday 25th June 2012. Speakers at this workshop will include Drew Macaulay, Director at Consilio, Caroline Waddicor, Global Director of Investigations at TNT Express UK, Patrick Doris, Partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP UK, and Mark Handley, Associate Attorney, at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP UK.

The half day workshop will highlight the essential steps that must be taken during an anti-corruption investigation using a hypothetical case study. The interactive session will also address the key technical and legal elements of an internal investigation, and how to overcome potential hurdles. Points of discussion will include:

  • Identifying the appropriate scope of an investigation through risk assessment and involvement of Management and/or Audit Committee;
  • Creating and protecting Privilege;
  • Engaging with external counsel and technical advisors;
  • Understanding the workflow and timing of an information collection and review exercise;
  • Working with witnesses, including amnesty programs and separate representation;
  • Potential issues relating to data privacy;
  • Ensuring the defensibility of the processes employed and defining the end of the review process;
  • Delivering findings to internal stakeholders and reporting to regulators/prosecution agencies.

Drew Macaulay, Director at Consilio, comments, “Increasingly, private commercial enterprises are looking at their anti-corruption compliance frameworks, including their internal systems and controls, to ascertain their effectiveness and adequacy. A key element of a progressive compliance function is the ability to investigate potential corruption either on a pro-active or reactive basis. These investigations typically involve various issues ranging from the legality of accessing employees’ personal data to the technical challenges associated with locating relevant evidence in large volumes of electronic information. Our workshop has been designed to help participants understand the complexities of these issues by drawing on the wide ranging experience of speakers including representatives from a multinational corporation, a global law firm and a specialist technical consultancy.”

The workshop is targeted at compliance officers, in-house counsel, and investigators from global companies.
