Overcoming hurdles and avoiding costly mistakes
BRUSSELS – Wednesday, 11th April, 2012 — Consilio, a Symphony Technology Group (STG) company and leading eDiscovery services firm, has announced it will host a conference with DLR Legal, which it recently acquired, on ‘The Hidden Risks of Cross-Border Regulatory Investigations’ at the Cercle de Lorraine, Brussels on Tuesday 24th April, from 11:30 to 14:00 CET.
Speakers will include Consilio directors, Mathieu van Ravenstein and Drew Macaulay, plus guest speakers Andrew Hockley, Partner, Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP and Michele Tagliaferri, Associate, Sidley Austin LLP. The event is targeted at in-house Counsel, private practice solicitors and individuals involved in the fields of Compliance, Litigation, Dispute Resolution, or
e-Disclosure processes.
The agenda includes:
11:30 Welcome drinks and registration
11:45 Introduction by Mathieu van Ravenstein, formerly Co-founder of DLR Legal, and Director at Consilio
12:00 ‘Cartels and Leniency’, Andrew Hockley, Partner, Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP
12:30 ‘Challenges in gathering and reviewing evidence in regulatory investigations’, Drew Macaulay, Director at Consilio
12:50 ‘Data collection, review and transfer issues’, Michele Tagliaferri, Associate, Sidley Austin LLP
13:15 Open Buffet and networking
Mathieu van Ravenstein, Director at Consilio, comments, “Regulatory investigations constitute an important aspect of the work conducted by many law firms based in Brussels. The sheer size and scope of such investigations often shift the primary focus of legal practitioners to the most immediate practical question of how to run a large-scale project efficiently given the finite resources available. There are also organisational decisions which influence the success of an investigation to a similar degree – decisions which law firms cannot afford to get wrong. Our conference will seek to highlight some of those organisational and practical risks from the point of view of legal practitioners.”
Drew Macaulay, Director at Consilio adds, “The rise in cross-border trade has been accompanied by an increase in cross-border litigation, arbitration and regulatory investigations. The underlying causes of these disputes are, broadly speaking, the same as they have always been, but with an added layer of complexity as companies now litigate and respond to regulatory matters in a variety of jurisdictions, with varying legal frameworks and cultural nuances. Our conference will look at a specific part of the litigation and investigation process that is greatly affected by this variance, namely the retrieval, review, and production of information to other parties.”
